01 Overview of methods for restoring factory settings

Huawei Firewall（ USG series ）supports a variety of ways to restore factory settings , including :

·Web page recovery :Applicable to the case of having administrative rights .

·Command Line（ CLI ）Recovery :Applies to situations where administrative privileges are available .

·BootROMmode recovery :for password forgotten , the device can not start normally .

·Key recovery（ supported on some devices ）:Reset via a hardware button .

Here we go into more detail about these methods.

02 Recovery via Web / CLI (for logged devices)

CLI Recovery:

Step 1: Delete the current configuration file

The system will prompt whether to confirm deletion, enter 'YPlease confirm.

Step 2: Reboot the device to make the configuration work

After reboot, the firewall will revert to its factory default configuration.

Step 1: Select System > Configuration File Management. 

Step 2: Click "Restore factory configuration." 

Step 3: Back up the current configuration.

·Select Backup Configuration File.

·In File name , type the name of the backup profile file（ including the extension ）.

Step 4: Click OK to restart the device for missing configuration.

03 Recovery via BootROM (for forgotten passwords)

Step 1: Enter BootROM mode

1.Connect the console port of the device , use the serial port tool（ such as SecureCRT , PuTTY ） toconnect .

2.When the device starts, press repeatedlyCtrl + BEnter the BootROM menu.

3.Enter the BootROM password（ by default , the BootLoader password is empty , the system will ask you to set the password when you log in for the first time ）.

4.Choose**<6> Reset Factory Configuration**

Step 2: Clear the configuration files and restore the default settings.

Select from the BootROM menu:

Choose**<7> Reset Factory Configuration**

Step 3: Restart the device.

Select 0RebootOptions. Once the device is rebooted, the factory settings are restored.

04 Recover by keystroke (for devices that support hardware reset)

Partial Huawei firewall supportRESETPress the key reset, as follows:

1.When the device is on power, press longerRSTPress the key f or 3-5 seconds.

2.Observe the device indicator lights . When the MODE or SYS indicator lights on the panel flash , releasethe RSTbutton and wait for the device to restart .

3.When the device is rebooted, the factory default configuration is restored.

05 Use a deleted profile to restore the default configuration (for USG9500)

Only USG9500 supports this function, using this method will lose all the original configuration information of the device, please use caution.

·Restart the device .Press " Ctrl + B " within 3 seconds and enter the password to enter the BootROM main menu（ Main Menu ）.

Enter 4，Displays the name and path of the profile currently being used by the device.

In the startup file submenu, enter 4.View the configuration files used when the current system starts.The first line of the displayed informationcfgfile.zipis the currently used configuration file.

Enter 7 When you return to the BootROM main menu, enter 9 .Please enter again 1 Delete the configuration file.

·After the deletion is complete , enter3to return to the BootROM main menu .

·Enter2to restart the device .

·Since the configuration file has been deleted, you can use the default configuration to log in to the console port with the name admin.
